Periodontal Treatment
Periodontal (gum) disease is the leading cause of tooth loss among adults! Our teeth should be clean without plaque and our gums should be flat, tight pink. When someone develops minor to severe periodontal disease, one must get periodontal therapy. One usually requires scaling and root planning to remove the infection, also known as a deep cleaning. This procedure may need local anesthetic. Anti-microbial agents, such as chlorhexidine and povidine iodine, and antibiotics may be helpful. Sometimes surgery is necessary. |
